A Meal to Remember

It isn’t often that we go out to fancy restaurant but on Saturday night we were lucky enough to be treated by my Mom and Dad to a special dinner.  Dan and I do frequent Mystique Casino in Dubuque, which I think is fantastic.  Now, let me just say, we go because the promotions that they give us are amazing.  Last night was the first time in 1-2 months where we actually gambled our own money.  We went to hopefully win a car, this post is about a meal, so you decide if we won it or not.  🙂

Needless to say, this restaurant, called “Champagne”, might easily be one of the best meals I’ve ever had.  Walking in, we were greeted with a friendly smile and offered a complimentary glass of Champagne.   I’m a big fan of live music and honestly any kind will do as long as it’s not awful. The ambiance was filled with some lovely piano playing, not too loud not too soft.  The chairs were just so comfortable.  Yes, I just said chairs.  Sometimes you go to fancy restaurants and the chairs are so uncomfortable that you can’t even enjoy yourself.  Not the case in this instance.

Let me say that it’s also important to have options, especially when it comes to drinks.

We started off with some nice warm bread, which alas I did not take a picture of because no matter what angle, I didn’t think that the slices of bread would look very ‘pretty’.  Appetizers also arrived at the table but it escapes me what it was we actually ordered.  I decided on a mixed green salad and the Shrimp and Scallop Braise as my main course.

How can a salad with champagne vinaigrette not be good??

My Main Course:  Shrimp and Scallop Braise

The picture of my main course doesn’t do it any justice.  It just melted in my mouth and was absolutely gorgeous.  The glass of Riesling was a nice addition to the taste and I would recommend this dish to anyone.   AND THE RISOTTO!!!  You have to go, you have to try it.  It had pieces of asparagus and other veggies which I would never think of putting in risotto and was just a perfect blend of flavors for my palette.

Just when I didn’t think it could get much better, it was dessert time.  I could just tell these people didn’t mess around.  They knew what they were doing and Dan and I decided on the raspberry cheesecake.  It was just…… I’ll show you the picture, you decide.

I can’t say enough about this place.  For a restaurant inside of a casino, I wouldn’t normally think too much of it.  After that fine experience and meal,  it’s probably in my top 5 favorite restaurants and I can’t wait to go back.
