We didn’t have to travel far this weekend to have a good time. In fact, the Prairie Villa Rendezvous is about 1.5 miles from our home on St. Feriole Island. The Rendezvous is the largest buckskinner and fur-trader reenactment in the Midwest. When we were leaving today they were having a knife throwing contest but they also had cooking, black powder rifle and primitive bow shoot contests. We were lucky enough that the weather held out and it didn’t thunderstorm and although warm, it was nice to have a gracious breeze off of the Mississippi River. It’s been 10+ years since I’ve been and Dan’s first so it was a real delight to walk around.
Here’s a basic look at all of the huts that everyone lives in all weekend.
While the Rendezvous really only has main events Thursday-Sunday, most campers attend this event for the entire week. In fact, on my way to work all last week, I was walking/driving past fur traders every morning.

All campers are selling different things. There was a blacksmith, coppersmith, fur traders and then of course FOOD! We shared some fry bread and rootbeer.
Besides seeing people really live the life of fur traders, the best part of this whole thing is that it doesn’t cost anything to get on the grounds. I can’t remember the last time that I got into an event for free and just had to pay for the things that I bought. So, if you really wanted to, you could go there, walk around and spend no money at all.
Of course, how can you leave without buying an Alligator head? You’d be crazy not to. 🙂 So now, sitting on our mantle next to a beautiful clock and candle stick, WE have an alligators head.
Stay tuned for some amazing pictures of Dan!! Seriously, they’re good 🙂
